It’s Gonna Leave A Mark

We are having problems with a brother (who says he’s not a brother) and a sister who works for that brother.  The sister is responsible for looking after our mother because she and the brother kidnapped her from our town, drove her to another state and plopped her into a home.  Now, the sister has abandoned her.  She even admitted it to us on the phone.  Two days later, she tells a completely different story.

We are now left with no choice other than to call the Elder Abuse Hotline in that state and have them check into it for us.

When I told my sister this, she got cocky and said, “I’m not worried.  They can’t complicate my life any more than Mom has already.”

It sad that some people have no respect for others.  Even more sad that they think they are so all powerful that they are above the law and do not fear those who uphold the law.

In two days, she has told two different stories regarding my mother’s care.  One of them is a lie.

Why is she lying?

It’s time to find out and unfortunately, we will have to contact a third party to learn the truth.  My mother’s well-being is at stake.

Families suck!

The Buck Stops in China

There is a financial turd in the economic punchbowl and people are drinking around it.

China has resorted to stealth intervention in the currency markets to amass US dollars, using indirect means to hold down the yuan and ease the pain for its struggling exporters as the global slowdown engulfs the economy.

Are you paying attention to this?

A study by HSBC’s currency team in Asia has concluded that China’s central bank is in effect forcing commercial banks to build up large dollar reserves, using them as arms-length proxies in a renewed campaign of exchange rate intervention.

[snip]

Given the sheer scale of China’s foreign reserves - now $1,800bn (£970bn) - any shift in its exchange policy now ripples around the globe. The covert buying may help to explain at least part of the explosive dollar rebound over recent weeks.  (article here)

Missing a Book? Call (262) 375-5320

Are you missing a book? If so, call Charles Wenten at (262) 375-5320.

Charles Wenten is the Chief of Police in Grafton Wisconsin and he is very good at finding books and arresting book stealers and book-not-taker-backers.

Chief Charlie and his ever-ready department of book police recently nabbed a notorious book-not-taker-backer named Heidi Dalibor, age 20. John Hanson, the local librarian in Grafton, dialed (262) 375-5320 and informed the Chief of Police, Charles Wenten that Heidi had two overdue paperbacks, “White Oleander” and “Angels and Demons.” That brazen hussie! In no time, officers, armed with a with a warrant for her arrest, knocked on her door, slapped the cuffs on her, like the diabolical criminal that she is, and took her to the police station to be fingerprinted and photographed. (She takes a pretty decent photograph if you ask me)

People in the town of Grafton, Wisconsin can sleep easier tonight, knowing that their illustrious police department has once again removed yet another threatening menace from their streets. Read the rest of this entry »

A Cautious Reminder

I found this somewhat sobering post on the Internet.
I couldn’t have said it better myself.

The Declaration of Independence for Dummies

Posted on FreeRepublic.com Thursday, May 15, 2003 3:18:48 AM by tame

While learning the Declaration Of independence by heart, I realized that many readers may “pass over” so many of the beautiful phrases without really grasping their meaning. Therefore, I have endeavored to offer the following “Declaration of Independence for Dummies” in “street corner English”.

Actual words/phrases of the Declaration of Independence will be italicized, with my simpler translation following on normal font.  Here Goes:

”When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary or one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another…”

Whenever a group of people needs to split from their government…

Zzzzzt! Your Salad is Ready

The FDA recently announced that it will allow radiation to be used on lettuce and spinach to kill E. coli and a few other germs (and nutrients). The ruling goes into effect August 22, 2008.

Now, when the lettuce picker is packing away the Iceburg and Popeye food, you won’t have to worry whether he washed his hands or not after picking his nose or scratching his butt because the radiation will make it all better. Yeah, right.

BTW, irradiation will have no effect on norovirus contamination which is a leading cause of produce outbreaks, nor will it have any effect on chemicals, fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides.

I have a better idea. Why don’t we irradiate the lettuce and spinach pickers…or perhaps FDA officials?
