Time to Call The Loon Warden

I know someone who obviously has a severe Delusional Disorder and suffers from Paranoid Schizophrenia, and I serious believe that it’s time to call in the mental health officials to protect him and thus, his family and friends.

Here is some information on his condition.

Delusional Disorder

Delusional disorder is a psychiatric diagnosis denoting a psychotic mental illness that involves holding one or more non-bizarre delusions in the absence of any other significant psychopathology (signs or symptoms of mental illness). In particular, a person with delusional disorder has never met any other criteria for schizophrenia and does not have any marked hallucinations, although tactile (touch) or olfactory (smell) hallucinations may be present if they are related to the theme of the delusion.

A person with delusional disorder can be quite functional and does not tend to show any odd or bizarre behavior aside from these delusions. “Despite the encapsulation of the delusional system and the relative sparing of the personality, the patient’s way of life is likely to become more and more overwhelmed by the dominating effect of the abnormal beliefs”. (Munro, 1999)

Oh, there is so much more!

What I’ve Learned

Just a few things I have learned through the years. (in no particular order)

  1. Never tell someone how to live their life because you don’t walk in their shoes and never will.
  2. Never try to tell someone how to die because you lack first hand experience.
  3. Sometimes what happens is no one’s fault as much as you’d like to blame someone or something.
  4. Sometimes bad things happen and there is nothing you can do about it.
  5. The best approach to a difficult situation is with your eyes open, your heart soft, your hand out and your mouth shut unless you have something positive and supportive to say.
  6. Tomorrow may be too late.
  7. There are some things you’ll never get over.
  8. Keep your words soft and they won’t hurt as bad when they’re thrown in your face.
  9. It’s ok to get angry for a good reason, just don’t stay angry.
  10. It’s ok to cry.
